Wow, 50 years has passed since our high school graduation. Doesn't seem that long, does it?
Hsiu and I are about the same as we were 5 years ago. Our health is good and we keep busy with upkeep on our rural home. I posted a few pictures online of the porch construction, which occupied a lot of our time this past year.
A summer wedding of my daughter and Baptism of a grandson marked the highlights of last year. We had visitors from Alaska, California, Florida, New Hampshire, New York & Virginia attending the events. And later a shipmate and good friend from Texas was visiting family in Portland and made a brief detour up to our home for some 'sea stories'. It was a fine time for company.
I have been spending more time online as many of you have suffered through, ha. Couple of classmates and I have been 'jousting verbally' over some political issues, but it has stayed friendly. It just seems easier to stay 'connected' via the internet, though I am really looking forward to face-to-face visits at our class reunion.
Hsiu continues to fish the local river, hunt the local woods and work on outdoor home improvements. It was her idea to construct the porch so visiting grandkids can play out of the rains. She continues to epitomize the energizer bunny.
Our kids are all well...
Tai and his family are still in the Petroleum Industry and living and working in Alaska. Mei lives nearby and continues her employment at the Community College, but also has begun teaching at the community college. Joe & Celina continue to excel professionally and live about an hour away. Michelle married Josh this summer and was the occasion for a family get-together at our home. Mikki and Dave are raising their family in California but would like to move closer to us.
Sadly, our grandkids do not live nearby...
James & Mia are growing up in Anchorage with moose occasionally lounging in their yard. Cailin, Alyssa and baby Ian live in Southern California but got together with their northern cousins at their Aunt Michelle's wedding and Ian's Baptism. I imagine that when they get a bit older, they both will look forward to cross-country visits.
We have become the senior generation...
The last of my family from the previous generations passed away during this last year. Both my Uncle Harold and Aunt Jackie were well into their nineties and lived very full lives. We have all read of the loss of close family members of classmates, but that is nature's way.
We make way for the young but hopefully NOT-TOO-SOON.
Bill LaMeres
Like some others in our class, I did not graduate with the rest of you at Central because our family moved to Southern California between our junior and senior years. I moved back to Billings a couple of years later and have always considered Billings Central my alma mater.
My greatest accomplishment was marrying Kathleen Walsh from Billings Central, the class of 1965. After forty seven years together, we have three fine sons, two precious granddaughters and one precious grandson.
Bookkeeping and tax return preparation consumed the better part of my working career. A six-year commitment with the Montana Army National Guard satisfied my Vietnam-era military obligation.
